Christina Curras

Dr. Christina Curras is a Professor in the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Her work bridges geotechnical engineering and innovative educational practices, with a strong commitment to student success and inclusive learning environments.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, University of California-Davis
• M.S. in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering), University of California-Davis
• B.S. in Civil Engineering, University of California-Davis

Her research and teaching interests focus on geotechnical engineering, pedagogy, and student success initiatives. She emphasizes experiential learning, mentoring, and support systems to enhance retention and professional development in engineering education. Her work integrates practical geotechnical knowledge with forward-thinking educational strategies.

Dr. Curras has led major educational grants funded by the National Science Foundation. As Principal Investigator, she directed the NSF STEP grant supporting CenterPOINT, which offers students jobs, mentoring, and research stipends. She also leads the NSF S-STEM SPACES grant, providing scholarships and comprehensive support for civil and environmental engineering majors.

She is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the GeoInstitute, and serves on the ASCE Civil Engineering Education Innovation Working Group, contributing to national advancements in engineering pedagogy.
