Christian Coles is a Lecturer in the School of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, part of the College of Design. His work bridges architecture, urban planning, and psychological principles, with a focus on minority and African American communities. He holds a BSc in Architecture (2016) and a Psychology certificate from Georgia Tech, alongside an MArch from the University of Michigan (2018).

Research Interests: Christian’s research examines how urban design and architecture can address historical racial inequities, particularly in Newport News, Virginia. He integrates environmental psychology to understand the human experience in built environments, advocating for culturally efficacious and regenerative approaches. Key themes include participatory design, justice-driven urban strategies, and the aesthetics of African American cultural heritage.
Teaching & Work Experience: He has taught studios at Kennesaw State University on Cultural Efficacy and Regenerative Urban Design for Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Currently, he works at Chasm Architecture, a firm specializing in architecture-to-community planning projects, and teaches a course on African American Design and Aesthetics through CPDI Africa.
