Christel Querton

Dr Christel Querton is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the Faculty of Business and Law, University of the West of England. Her research focuses on international refugee law, particularly persons fleeing armed conflicts and refugee women, informed by comparative and feminist methods.

She is a member of the Research in Public International Law group and the Global Migration Network at UWE, and a Research Affiliate at the Refugee Law Initiative (University of London). Her monograph Conflict Refugees (Cambridge University Press, 2023) and publications in journals like the Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights and Refugee Survey Quarterly highlight her expertise in asylum appeals, judicial review, and gendered dimensions of refugee law.

Christel formerly practiced as an asylum, immigration, and human rights barrister in London and maintains strong ties to the charity sector through roles with organizations like Asylum Aid and the Asylum Research Centre Foundation.
