Chris King is the Interim Vice President for Research at the University of Georgia (UGA) and a Professor of Population Health in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined UGA in 1992 and has held leadership roles in research compliance and integrity for over two decades.
- Education: Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor’s in Biology from the College of William and Mary, and a postdoctoral fellowship in comparative medicine at Yale University School of Medicine.
King’s research interests and leadership focus on ensuring ethical and safe research practices, including overseeing UGA’s Animal Care and Use Program, Biosafety Program, and Human Subjects Protection Program. He played a pivotal role in consolidating biomedical animal care programs under a unified structure and led the development of the BSL3/ABLS3/BSL3Ag Animal Health Research Center.
He has achieved gold-standard accreditations for UGA’s Animal Care and Use Program (AAALAC International) and Human Subjects Protection Program (AAHRPP). King also spearheaded the implementation of UGA’s Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Compliance policy in collaboration with Tribal Nations and the Laboratory of Archaeology.

He manages 11 direct and nearly 100 indirect reports, streamlining compliance processes and reducing administrative burdens for faculty.
