Kimberly Volarcik

Kimberly Volarcik is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and serves as Executive Director of the Human Research Protection Program. She joined the university in 2004 and oversees regulatory compliance, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) operations, clinical trial registrations, and accreditation processes for human research protection programs. Her academic role involves teaching graduate courses in research ethics.

Education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Kent State University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Compliance and Risk Management at CWRU School of Law (expected completion: December 2025).

Research interests focus on regulatory frameworks and ethical oversight in human subjects research. Key areas include:

As Research Compliance Officer, she directs strategic initiatives for the IRB Advisory Committee and Quality Improvement Program. She also conducts institutional site visits for the Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) and provides executive coaching to faculty and students.
