Professor Chris Byrne is a Professor of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the University of Southampton. He is affiliated with the Institute of Developmental Sciences and the Nutrition, Endocrinology and Metabolism department. His research focuses on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and their intersections with diabetes, cardiovascular health, and metabolic disorders. He has been recognized as a world-leading expert in NAFLD research, ranked 5th globally by Expertscape.
Professor Byrne has led numerous research projects funded by organizations like the Medical Research Council (MRC), Diabetes UK, and the British Heart Foundation.
