Chien-Ju Lin is a Lecturer in Chinese Language at the Department of Asian Studies within the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She has been teaching at UBC since 2012, initially as a visiting lecturer and then as a full lecturer since 2016.
Dr. Lin specializes in advanced heritage Chinese language instruction, bringing extensive international teaching experience to her role. Prior to joining UBC, she taught Chinese at Tamkang University's Chinese Language Learning Center in Taiwan (2005-2008) and served as a guest instructor teaching Mandarin at Leiden University's Chinese Studies Program in the Netherlands (2010-2011).
Her research interests focus on Chinese language pedagogy for heritage learners. Dr. Lin holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from National Taiwan Normal University. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes building students' language confidence and encouraging exploration beyond comfort zones.
Dr. Lin's approach centers on cultivating students' language-speaking confidence while helping them work toward personal and professional goals as lifelong learners of Chinese language and culture. She is based in Auditorium Annex B, room 212 at UBC.
