Dr Chiara Brozzo is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at the University of Birmingham, specializing in philosophy of cognitive science and aesthetics. She holds a PhD from Università degli Studi di Milano (2013) and a Master of Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Oxford (2009). Her academic journey includes research and teaching roles at institutions in Germany, Belgium, UK, and Spain.
Research Interests: In philosophy of cognitive science, she explores agency, motor intentions, and transformative experiences shaping self-conception. Her aesthetics research challenges boundaries between fine art and design, notably arguing for perfumes as artistic works. Current projects investigate social media commitment and the intersection of olfactory appreciation with natural aesthetics.
Publications: Her work spans 2017–2024, covering topics like intention-motor representation integration, categorical action perception, and perfume artistry. Articles appear in journals such as Mind & Language, PLOS One, and Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, with a recent digital project analyzing perfume as art.
Teaching and Supervision: At Birmingham, she convenes undergraduate modules on Reason and Belief, and Philosophy of Mental Health. She actively supervises doctoral research in philosophy of cognitive science, psychiatry, and aesthetics, welcoming inquiries on specialized topics within these fields.
