Yoko Iwasaki is an Associate Professor at Kyoto-saga Art College in Kyoto, Japan. She serves as a researcher in French aesthetics, olfactory art, and Kôdô, and represents the Research Society of Taste and Smell and the Perfume Art Project. Her work bridges philosophy, contemporary art, and interdisciplinary research in neuroscience, psychiatry, nursing, psychology, and tourism. Born in Kyoto, she is based there and actively curates olfactory art exhibitions while developing innovative projects such as scent-based reminiscence methods, dementia-prevention digital games, and smell-scape tourism initiatives.
Her research integrates Merleau-Ponty’s and Bergson’s theories of the body with sensory studies, particularly focusing on smell and taste. She collaborates internationally, expanding olfactory aesthetics and practical applications through cross-disciplinary partnerships.
