Marisa Portolese is Associate Professor in Photography at Concordia University's Faculty of Fine Arts. Her practice explores portraiture, representations of women, autobiography, and cultural heritage through large-scale photographs.
Current research examines the demolished Goose Village neighborhood in Montreal, where her Italian immigrant parents lived before displacement during Expo 67. Portolese served as Artist-in-Residence at Montreal's McCord Museum, producing the In the Studio with Notman series inspired by 19th-century portraits.
Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in museum collections including Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
