Keren Gorodeisky is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Auburn University, specializing in Aesthetics, Kant, Value Theory, and Pleasure. She earned her PhD from Boston University and focuses on the rationality of aesthetic engagement, emotions as exercises of agency, and second-personal relationships in understanding people.
Her research explores the non-contingent link between aesthetic value and pleasure, arguing that appreciation—not perception—is the foundation of aesthetic knowledge. She challenges the assumption that reasons must be either theoretical or practical, proposing a distinct category of appreciative reasons. Her work also examines Kant’s philosophy, particularly the role of imagination and disinterestedness in aesthetic judgment.
Key trends in her publications include: (1) redefining aesthetic rationality as a unique domain, (2) analyzing the epistemology of aesthetic appreciation, (3) examining the Romantic imperative to 'poeticize' life and science, and (4) reconciling disinterestedness with the self’s active role in aesthetic experience.
