Charlotte C. Gard is a Professor and Program Director of the A ST PhD Program at New Mexico State University's College of Business. She holds academic affiliations in the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business. Her expertise spans biostatistics, breast cancer research, and maternal and child health. Gard earned a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Washington, an M.S. in Experimental Statistics from NMSU, an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alabama (magna cum laude).
Her research focuses on breast cancer risk prediction, mammographic density modeling, and health disparities. Notable projects include studies on diagnostic bias in breast cancer risk models and the impact of socioeconomic factors on health outcomes. Gard has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications since 2015 across disciplines like epidemiology, agricultural science, and library science.
She has been recognized with prestigious awards including the Stan Fulton Endowed Chair in Business (2021–present) and the Donald C. Roush Teaching Excellence Award (2019). Gard has led or co-led NIH-funded grants totaling $12+ million, focusing on cancer risk modeling, translational research infrastructure, and border health disparities. Courses taught include advanced statistical methods and quantitative business analysis.
Her collaborative grants involve institutions like Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the National Cancer Institute. Current initiatives include improving breast cancer risk prediction models and analyzing disparities in cesarean delivery rates along the U.S.-Mexico border.
