Ching-Yun Wang, PhD is a Professor in the Biostatistics Program within the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. He also holds an Affiliate Professor position in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Washington. Dr. Wang is a member of the Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC) at Fred Hutch, where he leads the C-Y Wang Group focused on advanced statistical methodology development.
Dr. Wang earned his PhD in Statistics from Texas A&M University-College Station in 1993 and his MS in Applied Mathematics from National Tsing-Hua University in 1985.
Dr. Wang's research centers on measurement error, missing data, joint modeling of survival and longitudinal data, and analysis of clinical trials. His group has developed innovative statistical methods including semiparametric regression models and approaches for high-dimensional biomarker data. His work has been applied to numerous biomedical and epidemiological studies, particularly those examining how diet and physical activity can prevent cancer. One notable study found that weight loss in overweight and obese women reduced hormone levels related to breast cancer risk. He has also contributed to trials of screening strategies for colorectal cancer.
Dr. Wang's publications reveal a consistent focus on methodological advances in handling measurement error and missing data within survival analysis frameworks. His work spans applications in nutritional epidemiology, cancer prevention, and clinical trials, with particular emphasis on developing robust statistical techniques that can be applied across diverse biomedical contexts.
Scientific Awards:
- The H.O. Hartley Award, Department of Statistics, Texas A&M University (2002)
Dr. Wang serves as Co-Investigator on multiple significant research projects including studies on exercise-stimulated signaling pathways related to cancer development, dietary interventions for women with endometriosis, statistical methods for physical activity data analysis, breast cancer diagnostic kits for low-resource settings, and methods for analyzing tumor heterogeneity. His collaborative approach extends to numerous research groups at Fred Hutch including the Anne McTiernan Group, Marian Neuhouser Group, and others working on diet, physical activity, and cancer prevention.
The C-Y Wang Group maintains active collaborations with various research teams across Fred Hutch and the University of Washington, particularly in the areas of nutritional epidemiology, physical activity research, and cancer prevention studies. Their methodological work supports clinical and observational studies examining the relationship between lifestyle factors and cancer risk.
