Dr. Ying Huang is a Professor at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center with dual appointments in the Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Epidemiology Program (Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division) and Biostatistics Program (Public Health Sciences Division). She serves as an Affiliate Professor in Biostatistics at the University of Washington and is a member of the Fred Hutch/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium and Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center.

Dr. Huang specializes in developing statistical methodologies for biomarker studies in cancer and infectious diseases, focusing on disease screening, surrogate endpoint identification, and treatment selection. Her research integrates causal inference, missing data methods, and nutritional epidemiology to improve clinical trial efficiency. The Huang Group actively advances biomarker validation through innovative study designs and two-phase sampling techniques, with applications spanning pancreatic cancer diagnostics and vaccine efficacy assessment.
As principal investigator, she leads multiple clinical trials including the Biomarker Bake-Off studies for pancreatic cancer (Phases I-III) and the Pancreatic Cyst Biomarker Validation Study. Her collaborative work extends to the HIV Vaccine Trials Network, Early Detection Research Network, and Seattle Dietary Biomarker Development Center, addressing critical gaps in cancer screening and infectious disease prevention.
Dr. Huang's laboratory drives translational data science initiatives within Fred Hutch's research ecosystem, focusing on high-dimensional biomarker selection and individualized treatment rules using randomized trial data. Current projects include statistical methods for genetically-diverse pathogen vaccine trials and accelerated biomarker development for Phase III/IV studies.
