Dr. Charles McDaniel is an Associate Professor in Church-State Studies at Baylor Interdisciplinary Core (BIC) and affiliated with Baylor University's J.M. Dawson Institute. He has taught at BIC since 2008, offering courses such as World Cultures IV, Social World I & II, and Biblical Heritage, alongside specialized topics in church history, religion and law, and Christian social thought. His research bridges theological, historical, and ethical dimensions, with a focus on intersections between religion, economics, and political philosophy.
Dr. McDaniel’s recent publications include a 2023 book chapter on Islamic reform movements and mosque-state relations, a scholarly article analyzing Christian ethical responses to genetic advancements, and a keynote paper on Reinhold Niebuhr’s Christian realism in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies. His work explores themes like the Protestant Reformation, comparative religious thought, and economic ethics.
He was awarded a sabbatical and University Research Committee Grant in 2023 to advance his forthcoming book project on Reinhold Niebuhr’s Christian realism and public theology. Dr. McDaniel also serves as Book Review Editor for the Journal of Church and State, contributing to academic discourse on religious and societal interactions.
