Nicholas Pruitt is an Assistant Professor of Post-1800 US History at the University of Cambridge and Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College. He completed his MA in Church-State Studies and PhD in History at Baylor University. His research examines the intersections of religion, politics, and culture in twentieth-century America.
Dr. Pruitt's research focuses on Protestant orientations toward immigration reform and refugee resettlement between the 1920s-1960s, as explored in his book Open Hearts, Closed Doors. His current work investigates manifestations of Christian nationalism during the Cold War era, analyzing how different religious groups interpreted American identity.
He teaches courses on 'The United States since World War I' and 'North America, Central America and the Caribbean since 1775', while supervising undergraduate dissertations and MPhil students.
