Research focuses on the dynamic intersection of Catholic identity and health care systems, with evolving expertise from fundamental moral theology to contemporary sponsorship models. Current work centers on how religious sponsorship can transform health care through prophetic leadership, addressing long-term care crises and transgender ethical/policy challenges. His scholarship uniquely bridges Thomistic theology with operational health care leadership, emphasizing sponsorship as active reform rather than passive oversight.
Recent publications (2019-2021) reveal a clear trajectory toward applied health care ethics, with recurring themes of moral urgency in systemic reform. Articles in Health Progress and Commonweal analyze sponsorship as a catalyst for change in long-term care, health coverage policy, and ecclesial structures, while connecting political decisions to theological integrity. This body of work demonstrates consistent application of Catholic social teaching to evolving health care landscapes.
Through the Ashley-O'Rourke Center for Health Ministry Leadership, he shapes future health care leaders via specialized academic programs. His dual institutional roles create a pipeline from theological formation to executive leadership, emphasizing that health care mission requires both spiritual depth and operational competence. Student opportunities likely involve engagement with real-world sponsorship challenges in Catholic health systems.
