Fr. Romanus Cessario, S.T.D., is the Adam Cardinal Maida Professor of Theology at Ave Maria University. He holds advanced degrees including a B.A. in Philosophy from St. Stephen’s College, M.A. in Philosophy, S.T.L. and S.T.B. in Sacred Theology from the Dominican House of Studies, and a S.T.D. from the University of Fribourg. His research focuses on Thomistic theology, moral theology, sacramental theology, and medieval Christian thought.
Dr. Cessario’s work emphasizes Aquinas’ contributions to Christian anthropology, soteriology, and moral reasoning. He has authored over 20 books including A Short History of Thomism, Introduction to Moral Theology, and Sanctifying Truth: Thomas Aquinas on Christian Holiness, as well as numerous articles in journals like The Thomist and Communio.
His scholarly contributions span theological ethics, sacramental theology, and the history of Dominican thought. Notable works include analyses of Aquinas’ concepts of virtue, satisfaction theory, and the interplay between natural law and divine grace. He also engages contemporary issues through a Thomistic lens, such as bioethics and liturgical theology.
