Dr. Charlene Martin is a Professor of Literacy at Oral Roberts University (ORU), affiliated with the College of Education. She holds a B.S. in Special Education and Elementary Education (University of Nebraska at Omaha), an M.A. in Christian School Curriculum (ORU), and a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum with an Emphasis in Reading (University of Oklahoma). Her work focuses on literacy education, curriculum development, and teacher training. She has 15 years of K-12 teaching experience across Nebraska, Arizona, Wyoming, and Michigan, along with roles as a district-level literacy coordinator and literacy consultant for ten states.
At ORU, she designs and teaches courses such as Elementary Language Arts, Literacy Methods, and Special Education. She pioneered a nationally recognized mentoring program for new teachers, which she continues to direct. Her research emphasizes practical, research-based literacy strategies for all educational levels. In 2022, she received ORU’s Excellence in Teaching Award, and her Ph.D. dissertation earned both national and international accolades.
