Dr. Catherine Klehm serves as Professor of Chemistry at Oral Roberts University, where she teaches introductory chemistry to students pursuing careers in medicine, engineering, and education while uniquely integrating Biblical and spiritual insights into scientific concepts. A second-generation ORU faculty member following her father Dr. Richard Couch (Biology), she maintains deep institutional roots.
Her educational background includes:
- B.S. in Chemistry Education from Oral Roberts University (1990)
- Master's Degree from Northeastern State University (1992)
- Doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration with Specialty in Chemistry Instruction from Oklahoma State University (2001)
Dr. Klehm's research focuses on innovative chemistry pedagogy and faith-science dialogue, particularly through K-12 STEM outreach. She co-directs Oklahoma's Summer Academy program that has provided hands-on science and engineering experiences to secondary students statewide since 1990, establishing herself as the longest-serving faculty member in the program's history.
Her grant achievements include securing ORU's largest NSF award at the time (2015) through the Robert Noyce Scholarship Program for training math/science teachers, alongside multiple Oklahoma Regents Summer Academy Grants. These initiatives have produced lasting impacts with graduates continuing to inspire future STEM professionals in public schools.
As Summer Academy Co-Director, she leads interdisciplinary teams developing active learning curricula that bridge theoretical concepts with real-world applications, reaching thousands of Oklahoma secondary students through nearly continuous programming since 1990.
