He co-founded the International Symposium on Process Organization Studies and served as Editor-in-Chief of Organization Studies (2003–2008).
Education & Academic Formation:
- While specific degrees are not listed, his extensive publication record and appointments at leading European and Australian institutions evidence advanced training in management and organization studies.
Research Interests:
Tsoukas investigates how organizations know, learn, and change by integrating philosophy, ethics, and process thinking. Central themes include organisational knowledge and learning, sensemaking in real time, practical reason and moral judgment, strategy-as-practice, and the philosophical foundations (process, phenomenological, neo-Aristotelian) that underpin these domains.
Methodologically, he advances process organization studies and practice theory, insisting on complexifying rather than simplifying the phenomena we study.
Publication Trajectory:
Over three decades Tsoukas has produced a stream of conceptual and empirical articles that move from early critical systems thinking and reform management in Greece to mature contributions on practice, virtue ethics in strategy, and the micro-processes of routines and sensemaking. His 2024–2025 pieces extend this trajectory into embodiment, ethical frameworks, and pragmatist perspectives on routines.
Scientific Awards & Honors:
- Joanne Martin Trailblazer Award, American Academy of Management (2016)
- Cyprus Research Award – Distinguished Researcher (2016)
- 18th Honorary Member, European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) (2016)
Advising, Grants & Professional Service:
He serves as Academic Adviser to the Hellenic Association of Chief Executive Officers and has mentored numerous doctoral students and early-career scholars through the EGOS and Process Symposia communities. Grant data are not disclosed in the supplied text.
Labs, Teams & Networks:
Tsoukas co-organizes the International Symposium on Process Organization Studies, providing an enduring international network for process scholars. He is affiliated with research groups at Warwick Business School and the University of Cyprus, but no dedicated laboratory is mentioned.
