Catherine M. Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing and International Business at the University of Toledo’s John B. and Lillian E. Neff College of Business and Innovation. She is affiliated with the Edward H. Schmidt School of Professional Sales. Her academic journey includes a B.A. in German Studies (summa cum laude, University of Kentucky, 2006), an M.B.A. from Minnesota State University (2008), and a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of Alabama (2015). She has conducted international research in Germany, Greece, and France, and held banking roles in branch management, credit analysis, and marketing.
Her research focuses on sales management dynamics, including sales team conflict, emotional intelligence, and gig economy labor. She also explores consumer behavior topics like pro-social consumption and corporate social responsibility authenticity. Key contributions include the 2015 James M. Comer Award-winning study on sales control conceptualization and 2019 Emerald Highly Commended papers on sales team conflict and gig workers.
Professional service includes leadership roles in the American Marketing Association Sales SIG and National Conference in Sales Management. Her teaching spans Professional Sales and Advanced Sales courses. Awards include the 2018 DeJute Undergraduate Teaching Award and 2015 Watson Little Award.
