Catherine Crowley is a Professor of Practice of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Director of the Bilingual SLP Extension Institute and LEADERSproject Lab at Teachers College, Columbia University. She holds a B.A. from the University of Rochester, M.A. from Kean University, J.D. from Rutgers Law School, and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Her research focuses on disability evaluation equity, cleft palate speech therapy, and ethical international service work. She directs initiatives providing free resources for clinicians globally through leadersproject.org, offering materials in 30+ languages.
Dr. Crowley’s work emphasizes culturally and linguistically appropriate assessments, particularly for bilingual and low-income populations. She leads training programs like the Bilingual Extension Institute, fulfilling NYSED requirements for bilingual speech-language pathologists. Her LEADERS Project website receives 20k+ monthly visits from 130+ countries, distributing free clinical tools and training modules.
Her scholarly contributions span cleft palate treatment efficacy, cross-cultural clinical practices, and legal aspects of educational equity. Notable projects include collaborations in Ghana and Nigeria to improve services for children with disabilities.
