Carsten Wrosch is a Professor of Psychology at Concordia University, specializing in developmental and health psychology. His research focuses on self-regulation mechanisms in response to life challenges, particularly how individuals adapt to stressors to maintain psychological and physical health. He holds a PhD from the Free University of Berlin and leads the Wrosch Lab, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Human Development (CRDH). His work integrates theories from personality, developmental, and health psychology to study aging processes, emotion regulation, and health outcomes such as chronic disease and inflammation.
Key research areas include goal adjustment theory, the role of optimism and pessimism in health, and the physiological (e.g., cortisol, inflammation) correlates of emotional well-being. He examines how adaptive self-regulation strategies mitigate negative health consequences in older adults and couples facing health challenges. His lab investigates behavioral and biological markers of aging, emphasizing the interplay between psychological states and physical health over the lifespan.
Dr. Wrosch’s publications span 20+ years, with recent emphasis on stress management, physical activity in aging populations, and emotion dynamics. His work bridges psychoneuroendocrinology and psychoneuroimmunology to explore pathways to successful aging. He collaborates on studies involving breast cancer survivors, couples coping with sleep issues, and parents of children with autism spectrum disorder.
