Dr. Jean-Philippe Gouin is a Professor of Psychology at Concordia University and director of the Stress, Interpersonal Relationships, and Health (SIRH) Laboratory. He previously held the Canada Research Chair in Chronic Stress and Health. Education: PhD in Psychology from The Ohio State University.
Research interests include the physiological and psychological mechanisms linking stress to health outcomes, with a focus on inflammation, social relationships, and aging. His work explores how interpersonal dynamics (e.g., marital quality, attachment style) moderate stress-related health risks. Recent studies investigate the role of self-compassion, oxytocin genetics, and epigenetic factors in health resilience.
Publications highlight themes like stress biomarkers (e.g., cortisol, heart rate variability), immune dysregulation in caregiving roles, and sleep disturbances linked to chronic stress. Articles emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, bridging psychology, neuroscience, and genetics.
- Scientific Award: Former Canada Research Chair in Chronic Stress and Health
As a thesis supervisor, Dr. Gouin mentors students in clinical and health psychology. His lab collaborates with clinical and community partners to translate research into health interventions. Key platforms include the SIRH Lab and Concordia’s Centre for Clinical Research in Health (CCRH).
