Mr Carsten Jungfer is a Senior Lecturer and Unit A leader at the Department of Architecture & Visual Arts, School of Architecture Computing and Engineering, University of East London. He is also a practicing architect and co-founder of zectorarchitects (established in 2003), which operates from London and Munich. His professional experience spans architecture, urbanism, furniture, retail, housing, arts, community, public realm, infrastructure, and urban design, with notable competition successes including Europan awards.
- Teaching Focus: Developed a site-driven, process-oriented pedagogy with open briefs for undergraduate (years 2&3) courses since 2012.
- Research: Explores the intersection of architecture and urbanism, emphasizing participatory design, public realm strategies, and process-driven methodologies.
- Key Themes: Public Realm, Urbanism, Community Development, Performative Densities, Experimental Site Analysis.
Selected Research Publications include collaborative works on archaeology-infused design (2022), socio-spatial mapping in East London (2022), and co-design practices (2021). His projects reflect interdisciplinary approaches to urban challenges.
