- Joint Head of School of Architecture, University of Reading
- BSc Architecture Course Director
- Registered Architect (ARB, RIBA Part 3)
- Qualified with Architectural Practice at Wolff Olins, Powell Moya, Eric Parry Architects
His educational background includes a PhD from the University of Reading (2023), and prior teaching roles at the University of Nottingham, University of Cambridge, and Canterbury School of Architecture (UCA), where he elevated the school’s national ranking from 38th to 5th in the Guardian Tables by 2016.
Oliver’s research centers on architectural pedagogy, urban narratives, and the use of walking and fieldwork as tools for design inquiry. He explores how architecture mediates between public space and personal experience, often through issue-based teaching that addresses real-world urban challenges such as gentrification, flood defense, and ethnic integration. His creative practice includes mapmaking, public space interventions, and endurance walking as research methods.
His recent publications and projects, including Lea Valley Drift and DRIVOSAUR, reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach combining architecture, urban theory, and performance. These works emphasize narrative construction, speculative design, and collaborative workshops, particularly in international settings such as the University of Antwerp.
He has received multiple awards in design competitions, including first prizes in the Observer Liberty Woolmark, Restaurant 2000, and BD Hot Desking competitions, and was runner-up in the RIBA Living Sites and Europan 5 competitions. His work has been exhibited at the Architecture Foundation under the title 'Mars Pants'.

His current research continues to develop through his PhD and ongoing creative projects.
He is actively involved in public space research and activism, having conducted surveys of minor public spaces in London, curated exhibitions on benchspaces, and led circular walk workshops with multidisciplinary teams. He collaborates frequently with designers, artists, and architects such as Daisy Ginsberg, Emmanuelle Waeckerle, and Chloe Street.
