Carrie H. Colla is a Professor of The Dartmouth Institute and holds the Susan J. and Richard M. Levy Distinguished Chair in Health Care Delivery Science at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She serves as Vice Chair of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Her work focuses on health economics, particularly health insurance markets, Medicare reimbursement policies, and post-acute care utilization. Dr. Colla teaches courses in Health Policy, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Health Economics & Policy. She is affiliated with the Dartmouth Cancer Center and the Geisel School of Medicine.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an A.B. from Dartmouth College.
Research interests include the impact of healthcare payment models, employer health benefit choices, and disparities in access to care for elderly populations. Her recent work examines rural-urban disparities in cancer treatment and the effects of accountable care organizations (ACOs) on mental health outcomes.
Publications focus on healthcare cost trends, regulatory policy impacts, and quality improvement strategies. She contributed to high-impact analyses of Medicare ACO performance and certificate of need policies for diagnostic imaging.
Awards and honors include the Susan J. and Richard M. Levy Distinguished Chair position. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy solutions to address healthcare cost growth and inequities.
