Dr Carolyn Hunter is a Senior Lecturer in Organisational Theory & Behaviour at the School for Business and Society, University of York. Her research focuses on critical management studies, particularly affect and emotion, humor in corporate cultures, gender dynamics, and the creative industries. She has been affiliated with The York Management School and Social Policy and Social Work departments.
Her research areas include gender and feminist writing in organizations, the role of happiness and play in workplace cultures, and labor conditions in creative industries such as publishing and screenwriting. She has collaborated on projects like the Academy of Finland grant on 'The Business of Childhood' and co-led the 'Screenwriters' Earnings in the Streaming Age' study with the Writers' Guild of Great Britain.
Her teaching includes courses like 'Innovation and Creativity in Organization' and 'Creative Business Leadership' at the undergraduate level. She is actively involved in supervising PhD and master's students exploring themes of gender, creativity, and emotion in organizational contexts.
Dr Hunter's work integrates theories from Sara Ahmed and Jane Bennett to analyze affective labor and workplace materiality. She has presented at conferences such as the Standing Conference on Organisational Symbolism and the British Academy of Management Conference, contributing to debates on organizational symbolism and gendered labor practices.
