Caroline Heldman is a Professor and Department Chair of Gender, Women, & Sexuality Studies at Occidental College. She holds a B.A. from Washington State University and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Rutgers University, with appointments since 2006. Her work bridges academia and activism, focusing on the presidency, media, gender, and race in the American context.

Research Interests include intersections of political leadership, media representation, and identity politics in the U.S., as evidenced by her co-authored work Rethinking Madame President: Are We Ready for a Woman in the White House?

She co-founded Critical Response, a disaster relief volunteer organization, and contributes to grassroots efforts via Common Ground in New Orleans. Prior teaching roles include Whittier College, Fairfield University, and Rutgers University.
Additional Roles include general manager at Bio-Energy Systems, research manager at Consumer Health Sciences, and political reviewer for the Associated Press. Her insights have been featured in New York Times and U.S. News and World Report.
