Caroline Beer is a Professor at the University of Vermont in the Department of Political Science under the College of Arts and Sciences. She specializes in Mexican politics, with a focus on democratization, subnational politics, and gender in politics.
- Education: B.A. from Oberlin College, M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico.
Her research explores abortion rights, violence against women legislation, and gay rights in Mexico, often analyzing federalism and institutional change. She has received funding from the National Science Foundation, Social Science Research Council, and the Latin American Institute of the University of New Mexico.
Recent publications emphasize electoral dynamics, judicial federalism, and gender policy implementation in federal systems. She serves as Contributing Editor for the Mexican Government and Politics section of the Handbook of Latin American Studies at the Library of Congress.
- Scientific Awards: Research Fellow at the University of California, San Diego, Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies.
She directs the Liberal Arts Scholars Program for Social Sciences and has authored the book Institutional Change and Electoral Competition in Mexico, published by the University of Notre Dame Press.
