Cora Fernandez Anderson is an Associate Professor of Politics and Chair of the Department of Politics at Mount Holyoke College. She is actively involved in research on social movements, reproductive rights, and Latin American politics, with a focus on the Southern Cone. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the Five College Reproductive Health Rights and Justice Certificate Program.
Research Interests: Her work explores how social mobilization drives policy change, particularly in the realm of abortion rights. She investigates the dynamics between feminist movements and state actors, analyzing how alliances with sympathetic government officials influence legislative outcomes. Her scholarship emphasizes reproductive justice, human rights, and the political strategies of feminist organizing in Latin America.
Recent Publications Trends: Her recent publications focus on the legalization of abortion in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay, highlighting the role of social movements, multiparty coalitions, and institutional contexts. The articles and book chapters demonstrate a consistent thematic focus on gender, democracy, and contentious body politics in Latin America.

Grants and Advising: She received the LASA-Ford Grant to lead a Latin American research group on Obstetric Violence, which will produce the first English-language edited collection on the topic by Latin American scholars. She regularly teaches courses including Introduction to Comparative Politics, Latin American Politics, Theories of Social Movements, Human Rights in Latin America, and Sexual and Reproductive Rights in Latin America.
Labs and Teams: She co-leads a transnational research group on Obstetric Violence with scholars from Mexico and Argentina, funded by the LASA-Ford Grant, fostering collaborative academic work across Latin America.
