Richard Snyder is a Professor of Political Science at Brown University, affiliated with the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. He previously served as Director of the Center for Latin American Studies (2010-16) and Director of the Political Economy of Development Program. His research focuses on comparative politics, Latin American political economy, and qualitative methods, with recent work on extractive industries and pandemic policy responses in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S.
Education: PhD (1997) and MA (1991) in Political Science from University of California, Berkeley; BA (1989) in Government from Harvard University.
Key research interests include subnational governance, political transitions, resource management, and the global energy transition. His award-winning book *Passion, Craft and Method in Comparative Politics* (2007) reshaped methodological debates in the field. Recent studies analyze lithium mining dynamics in South America and subnational pandemic policies in presidential federations.
Major publications include *Inside Countries: Subnational Research in Comparative Politics* (2019), and influential articles on resource politics, electoral malapportionment, and regime change. His work has been translated into multiple languages and widely cited across disciplines.
