Dr. Caroline Dalton is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience and Genetics at Sheffield Hallam University, leading the Health and Disease group in the Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre and serving as Theme Lead for Living Well with Chronic Disease at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre. She holds a BSc and PhD and is part of the course leadership team for the Integrated Masters programme in Biosciences and Chemistry.
Teaching focuses on Neurobiology, Applied Biochemistry, Immunology, and Nutrition across undergraduate programs including BSc Biochemistry, Biology, Human Biology, and Biomedical Science. Research interests span molecular mechanisms underlying schizophrenia, neurodegenerative diseases, Long COVID, and ME/CFS, with recent projects involving epigenetic drug studies, pharmacogenetic interventions, and clinical trials for Long COVID. At the AWRC, her work explores physical activity as therapy for chronic conditions like cancer and multiple sclerosis, including app-based symptom tracking and frailty prevention initiatives.
She serves as Associate Editor for Neuroscience Letters and supervises PhD students researching post-viral illnesses, Parkinson's disease, metabolic syndrome, cancer prehabilitation, heart rate variability biomarkers, and pharmacogenetic testing. Affiliated with the Industry and Innovation Research Institute, her work bridges laboratory studies and community-based interventions to address complex health challenges.
