Anna Myers

Anna Myers is a Senior Research Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), affiliated with the Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre (SPARC) and the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC). She holds a PhD in Physical Activity, Health, and Exercise Science and has over nine years of experience in physical activity and health research, spanning controlled clinical trials to complex intervention evaluations. Her work focuses on three core themes: exercise’s role in appetite control and energy balance, cancer rehabilitation (including prehabilitation), and integrating physical activity into healthcare systems.

Anna earned a BSc (2011) and MSc (2012) in Physical Activity, Health, and Exercise Science from SHU. She completed a PhD as a part-time student at the University of Leeds’ Appetite Control and Energy Balance group. Since 2017, she has led high-profile national programs, such as the evaluation of England’s healthcare system physical activity initiatives. Her research is funded by agencies including the EU, NHS, Public Health England, and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Her teaching includes guest lecturing on SHU’s Physical Activity, Sport, and Health course, and supervising undergraduate/postgraduate projects. Key projects include the Moving Healthcare Professionals Programme evaluation, cancer rehabilitation programs, and the Erasmus+ Sport initiative on chronic disease prevention.

Anna’s 2024 publications emphasize scalable physical activity interventions in primary care, cancer rehabilitation service development, and global standards for prehabilitation outcomes. Her work bridges clinical practice and public health, focusing on evidence-based strategies to improve patient outcomes and healthcare system integration.
