Carol Clark is a Professor in Physiotherapy at Bournemouth University, affiliated with the Department for Rehabilitation and Sport Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on improving pain management through non-pharmacological approaches, particularly in maternal care and rehabilitation. She also explores digital tools and behavioral theories to enhance physical activity adherence and holistic health. Clark serves on the Dorset Integrated Care Services AHP Council and the NIHR ARC Wessex Training Committee, promoting research capacity and leadership in Allied Health Professions (AHP).
Clark holds a PhD in Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (2012) and has over 20 years of clinical experience. Her academic roles include Senior Lecturer (2013), Associate Professor and Head of Department (2015–2021), and Professor (2019). She collaborates internationally, notably with Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, India.
Her research interests span pain catastrophizing in labor, digital nudges for pelvic floor exercise adherence, and the integration of technology in rehabilitation. Notable contributions include studies on infant CPR skill retention, postoperative hand surgery outcomes, and the use of accelerometry for lumbar spine analysis.
Clark has secured grants for projects like 'Exploring Digital Technologies for Hand Rehabilitation' and 'Nudging Post-Partum Adherence to Exercise'. She has supervised numerous PhD students, including work on low back pain perception and labor pain management. Awards include the Vice Chancellor’s award for academic leadership (2014).
