Jane Simmonds is a Teaching Professor in the Infection, Immunity & Inflammation Department at University College London's Institute of Child Health. She serves as Director of Education at Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health and leads the MSc Advanced Paediatric Physiotherapy program. Her clinical role includes being physiotherapy clinical lead at Central Health Physiotherapy's London Hypermobility Unit.
Her research focuses on hypermobility spectrum disorders, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, dysautonomia, and pediatric physiotherapy. She has developed assessment tools like The Spider questionnaire and led the PULSE study on postural tachycardia syndrome rehabilitation. Her work emphasizes multisystemic approaches to hypermobility-related disorders across the lifespan.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong trend in developing and validating clinical assessment tools, investigating exercise rehabilitation protocols for dysautonomia, and establishing international consensus guidelines. Her work bridges clinical practice with research through co-creation methodologies involving patients and multidisciplinary teams.

Professor Simmonds has secured over £400,000 in research and education grants, supervising more than 100 MSc projects and several PhD students. She chairs the AHP International Ehlers Danlos Consortium working group and serves as physiotherapy representative on the international Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Society medical board. Her educational leadership includes developing international courses through the Ehlers Danlos Society ECHO program and serving as an external examiner.
She leads collaborative research teams focused on hypermobility disorders, working with institutions across the UK, Australia, and internationally. Current initiatives include the PULSE study implementation and expanding The Spider assessment tool for global clinical use.
