Carol A. Needham is the Emanuel Myers Professor at Saint Louis University School of Law, affiliated with the Center for International and Comparative Law. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University (1979), a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law (1985), and an M.A. from the University of Virginia (1982). Her research focuses on legal ethics, professional responsibility, and challenges faced by in-house counsel and transactional lawyers. She teaches courses including Business Law and Ethics, Civil Procedure, and Negotiation Theory and Strategy.
Her scholarship addresses multijurisdictional practice, cross-border legal issues, and professional licensing. Prior to academia, she practiced corporate law with firms like Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Chadbourne & Parke, specializing in mergers, acquisitions, and commercial litigation. Her work emphasizes ethical frameworks for lawyers in dynamic legal landscapes.
Publications include analyses of foreign legal consultants' roles and the ethical obligations of law professors. She has contributed to the textbook Lawyers and the Legal Profession, covering conflicts of interest, malpractice, and work-life balance in legal practice.
