Carl Fredrik Bergström is Professor of European Law and Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Law, Uppsala University. He joined Uppsala in 2010 after serving as Research Director at the Swedish Institute for European Political Studies (2002–2009), researcher at the European University Institute (1995–2002), and associate professor at Stockholm University (1995–2006). His academic background includes doctoral studies in EU governance systems.
Bergström's research focuses on EU constitutional law, regulatory behavior, and legal methodology, with active projects on:
- The principle of public access in European constitutional traditions
- EU crisis response mechanisms, particularly in energy market governance
- Rulemaking dynamics and delegated powers in EU institutions
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on EU institutional frameworks, crisis legislation, and constitutional adaptations between EU and national systems. Recent works emphasize energy solidarity mechanisms (2023) and rule of law safeguards (2024).
Key collaborations include directing the Uppsala-EUI research partnership under the Robert Schuman Centre's European Governance Programme (2017–2022) and serving as Matariki Fellow at the University of Otago (2020).
