Philipp Genschel is a Visiting Professor at the European University Institute (EUI), affiliated with the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. He is currently on academic leave from Jacobs University Bremen and the University of Bremen in Germany. Previously, he served as Deputy Director of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) on 'Transformation of the State' and was a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne. He has held teaching positions at the University of Chicago, Technische Universität München, and Harvard University.
Research Focus: His work centers on international political economy, European integration, and institutional theory, with a focus on how crises like the Ukraine war reshape EU policies and state institutions. He also explores financialization and transnational democracy dynamics.
Key Projects: He leads the ongoing project 'Transnational Democracy in the 21st Century' and contributed to the completed 'Integrating Diversity in the European Union'. His recent publications analyze EU institutional responses to geopolitical conflicts and solidarity mechanisms.
