Cara Doxey

Cara Doxey is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at the Social and Economic Research Institute of Sheffield Hallam University. She serves as Year 3 Leader for BA Primary Education (5-11) and BA Early Years and Primary Education (3-7) programs with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Her roles include academic tutoring and Lead Mentorship on undergraduate courses.

Dr. Doxey holds a BEd in English and Music from Derby University and completed her EdD at Sheffield Hallam in 2024. Her research focuses on children’s reading identities, literacy development, and fostering reading for pleasure. She co-founded the Reading Allowed project, leveraging read-aloud strategies to enhance primary school literacy engagement. This initiative has expanded her consultancy work with schools and earned her Patron of Reading appointments in Sheffield and Nottingham.

Her scholarly contributions include co-authoring children’s books and publishing on topics such as trainee teacher pedagogy, children’s literary perspectives, and diverse literacy practices. She actively contributes to the United Kingdom Literacy Association.
