Hannah Herd serves as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), Cambridge. She teaches on the BEd Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) programme, leads the Placement 1 module, and oversees Early Career Teacher (ECT) transition support.

Research Focus: Her work centers on literacy development, dyslexia interventions, and teacher education. Key areas include balanced phonics approaches, reducing educational inequality through mentorship, and dismantling gender stereotypes in primary curricula. She recently co-authored a gender equality curriculum with The Children’s Society.
Professional Background: With over ten years of primary school teaching across London, Birmingham, and Suffolk, she has held leadership roles in Key Stage One, Early Years Foundation Stage, literacy, and phonics. As a qualified Specialist Teacher and Assessor of Dyslexia (AMBDA Level 7), she is an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association and member of the Chartered College of Teaching.
