Camden Hutchison is an Associate Professor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law, University of British Columbia, and Director of the Centre for Business Law. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Rochester, a J.D. from Columbia Law School, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Prior to academia, he practiced corporate law at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, specializing in mergers & acquisitions for private equity firms and public corporations.
His research focuses on corporate transactions, comparative corporate governance, and the historical development of corporate law. Key themes include directors' duties, shareholders' rights, legal history, and the intersection of corporate law with taxation and competition. Recent work addresses modern challenges like sandbagging in M&A negotiations and judicial standardization in Canadian corporate jurisprudence.
Hutchison teaches courses on Business Organizations, Corporate Transactions, and the History of Capitalism. He actively contributes to academic discourse through publications in journals like Canadian Business Law Journal and McGill Law Journal. His interdisciplinary approach bridges historical analysis with contemporary legal practice, emphasizing Canada’s unique corporate law landscape compared to U.S. systems.
