Professor Caitriona Beaumont is a Professor of Social History at London South Bank University's School of Law and Social Sciences (since 2020) and a Visiting Full Professor at University College Dublin (2023-2028). She joined LSBU in 1998 as a Lecturer and has served as Director of Research (2015-2022). Her academic credentials include a PhD in Social History from the University of Warwick, an MA in Modern Irish History, and a BA (Hons.) in History and Politics from University College Dublin.
Her research specializes in gender equality, social movements, and women's activism across 19th-20th century Britain and Ireland. Current projects include:
- Beyond Women's Liberation (intergenerational activism)
- Everyday Welfare in Modern British History (collaborative expertise studies)
- AHRC-funded network 'Agency and Advocacy' (grassroots activism)
- Afterlives (activist biographies post-revolution)
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on welfare systems, female expertise, and intergenerational activism, particularly analyzing how housewives' associations and suffrage networks shaped social policy. Her work frequently employs transnational comparisons across Ireland, Britain, and Europe.
She supervises eight doctoral/postdoctoral students and has led major grants including an Arts and Humanities Research Council network (2023-2025). External roles include trusteeship at the Royal Historical Society and editorial positions for Modern British History and Contemporary British History journals.
