Robert J. Savage is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of History at Boston College, part of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on Modern Irish and British History, the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland, and the history of Irish and British broadcasting. He holds a B.A. and Ph.D. from Boston College and an M.A. from University College Dublin. Savage has held visiting positions at Trinity College Dublin, Queen's University Belfast, the University of Edinburgh, and the National University of Ireland Galway. His work explores intersections between media, propaganda, and historical narratives, often collaborating with scholars in Fine Arts, Philosophy, and English.
Key publications include Northern Ireland, the BBC and Censorship in Thatcher’s Britain (2022), The BBC’s Irish Troubles (2015), and a biography of Sean Lemass (2014). His research emphasizes media's role in conflict representation and cultural memory.
