Ciaran McCabe is a Lecturer in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen's University Belfast (QUB). His research focuses on social history, poverty, welfare systems, and charitable organizations in Ireland and Britain, with particular attention to urban contexts like Dublin and Belfast. His work spans topics such as pre-Famine Ireland, 19th-century humanitarian societies, and labor dynamics among women.
Key research interests include transatlantic welfare frameworks, the role of religious institutions in social relief, and the intersection of class, gender, and urban development. He has edited historical documents related to Catholic female religious communities and Methodism in 18th-century Dublin.
McCabe has held prestigious fellowships including the Irish Research Council Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018–20) and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (2020).
