Claire Hawkins is a Senior Lecturer in the Department for Primary and Childhood Education at Edge Hill University, part of the Faculty of Education. She is Senior SOLSTICE Fellowship Lead, focusing on technology integration in teaching and learning. Previously, she held roles including Strand Leader for Primary Computing and Course Leader for ICT/QTS programmes. Her expertise spans primary computing education, cyberbullying, social media use among adolescents, and the application of generative AI in higher education.
Education:
- PhD from Lancaster University (2019): Explored youth perceptions of cyberbullying using a socio-ecological lens.
- MA in E-Learning from Edge Hill University.
- PGCE in ICT from Edge Hill University.
- BSc (Hons) from Liverpool John Moores University.
Research Interests: Claire's work emphasizes participatory methods to understand cyberbullying dynamics, particularly in special school settings and among adolescents. She investigates how generative AI can transform educational practices and supports teacher preparedness in computing education. Her research networks include the Curriculum and Pedagogy Research Network and the Participative and Action Research Network.
Grants & Projects: Co-leads the TICE 2024 project (Teacher Inquiry in Computing Education) exploring pedagogical innovations. Engages in activities like organizing conferences (e.g., EduAI Exchange) and delivering invited talks on generative AI.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Centre for Social Responsibility and collaborates across disciplines to address UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
