Prof. Christiaan Both is a Professor of Animal Ecology at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences and the Department of Animal Ecology. His research focuses on understanding how organisms adapt to environmental changes, particularly in long-distance migratory birds. He holds academic leadership roles, including chairing the NWO Research Community Life & Planet and the Netherlands Ornithological Union. He has received prestigious grants such as the NWO VIDI Fellowship and has contributed to international conservation efforts.
Education:
- B.Sc. Biology (1988-1993), Universities of Wageningen, Groningen, and Oxford
- Ph.D. (1998), Netherlands Institute of Ecology
Research Interests: Prof. Both studies climate change impacts on avian migration, evolutionary ecology, and adaptation strategies in migratory species. His work integrates field studies, genetic analysis, and behavioral observations to address ecological challenges.
Awards & Grants:
- NWO VIDI Personal Research Fellowship (2006)
- NATO Science Fellowship (1998)
- Prins Bernhard Fund Grant (2005)
