Byron J. Mouton is a Senior Professor of Practice at Tulane University's School of Architecture and Director of its URBANbuild design/build program. A Tulane alumnus and New Orleans native, he has over 30 years of experience in architecture and construction, with a focus on post-Katrina urban revitalization and progressive contextual infill projects. His work bridges academic teaching, professional practice, and community engagement through collaborative planning approaches.
- Education: Master of Architecture II from Harvard University and Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University.
Mouton’s research emphasizes affordable housing models, ecological urban design, and the intersection of social innovation with architectural practice. He has led interdisciplinary initiatives since 1998, integrating clients, students, and industry leaders into projects that address aesthetic, economic, and environmental challenges in New Orleans. His work has been featured in national and international publications.
As Principal of BILD Design, he has directed the URBANbuild program, which combines design studios, study abroad opportunities, and community partnerships. He also served as a founding Social Entrepreneurship Professor in Tulane’s university-wide SISE program from 2011–2014.
