Maille Faughnan is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship (SISE) at Tulane University and a Research Fellow. She specializes in human-centered design, social innovation education, and interdisciplinary methodologies, with a focus on global development contexts. Her roles include curriculum development for SISE courses like Introduction to Social Innovation (SISE 2010) and the Senior Seminar (SISE 4050), leadership of the biannual Fast 48 innovation bootcamp, and mentorship of Taylor Student Fellows.
Education: Master of Science in International Development (Tulane University), Doctorate in International Development from the Payson Graduate Program for Global Development, specializing in social innovation and human-centered design.
Research interests encompass cultural dimensions of global development, design thinking applications in reproductive health and social entrepreneurship, and equity-focused educational frameworks. Fieldwork spans New Orleans, Central America, and East Africa, with a focus on gender dynamics and capacity-building.
Recent work highlights include integrating equity into social innovation curricula, leveraging co-inquiry methods during pandemic disruptions, and mapping interdisciplinary social innovation theories. She advances university-community partnerships through participatory research and reflective learning strategies.
Advising and mentorship: Oversees the Taylor Student Fellowships program, mentoring 4 design thinking fellows and supporting 7 undergraduate scholars. Contributes to Taylor's scholarship initiatives through original research and evaluation.
Labs/Teams: Core team member of the Fast 48 initiative, leading workshop pedagogy and curriculum innovation within Tulane’s SISE program.
